Pulses generated inside the brain of an architect turn into some image, gradually become some figure as an existence outside of him/her, running through the consciousness of people through media of communication. Architecture, originally, means structuralized information. This is why real world looks like virtual sometimes, and we can say that reality is the virtuality which our imagination creates.
If so, nothing but imagination ム power of image ム can change the real world. Technologies of electronic media which is growing rapidly connect the images in the brains of people to be linked.

Technologies will give a new point of view and a new framework and power to the images of coming environment, in which relationship between those upper two-item diagram can coexist.
[J-archive] project is a vision that is designed under these understandings. It is a proposal of an actually new type of library architecture. We propose a kind of highly informationed and environmentalied group-architecture which can be realized by high-technology. We would like to make the new landscape in which information technology and nature exist together.

mixture of real space and cyber space
mixture of real space and cyber space The stacks, of which basic function is storing physical books eternally and in volume on a large scale, are big storages of real space and at the same time are the archive of academy, of studies, of cultures, of histories. We believe that the more society is informationalized, the more important physical relationship between real people and real books will be.Architecture symbolizes the mixture of real space and cyber space, and the movement of people inside the facilities is visualized spatially. In progress of computer spatial structures of information are shifted from mono/centralize/fixed to multi/dispersal/fluid. The architectural type which we adopted does not have centralized structure, and we think dispersal layout type will be appropriate to make much of independent partial space. For the network planning of information age, we propose the information infrastructure throughout in the library to support various activities and to run various services smoothly.
Spacial Figure and Ground
Parallel laid two buildings on the hill have a corresponsive mutual relationship. Reversed spacial figure and ground two buildings are paralleled, and various rich spaces are generated inside and outside on the simple composition. mass in void, void in mass. Moving people, moving books, moving information in and out of them. The composition of this architecture symbolizes mutual penetration.
