Present treatment. Not decided. Koidzumi (Fl. Symb. Orient.-Asiat.: 16, 1930) wrote that this is not native of Japan and treated as a synonym of Aristolochia tagala Cham. & Schl. This is a Malesian species and the type is not a Japanese collection (see Hou in Blumea 29: 232, 1983).

　Miquel referred Keiske's specimen (as Mizutani Sukerok in IDC) [908. 247-693] (L 0170931) to this species and wrote “vix non huc referendum sed diversum petiolis paullo brevioribus, foliis utrinque 5-6-costulatis, et sepalis subglabris (diversed with slightly short petioles, 5-6-costulate leaves and subglabrous sepals).” The Keiske's specimen at least consists of two collections; upper one with a Japanese name “Shirakuchi” was a collection of Sukerok Mizutani, and lower and four leaves of the left margin seem to be that of Keiske.
