Position of small pillar holes of pit dwelling ruins

Abstract

It is an interesting problem for us to imagine the shape of houses which had been built upon excavated dwelling sites. Useful keys for us assume upper structure of primitive houses are pillar holes dug upon the floor of pit-dwelling. Among pillar holes, the most important type is the "main pillar hole" which is the widest and deepest hole. However, there are many small pillar holes other than the main pillar hole in dwelling sites, which have not been studied much. By examine the small pillar holes precisely, we can obtain many hints to think about the shape of houses. Moreover, the relationship between the main pillar hole and other small pillar holes have never been examined yet. In this article, we will report that we can find a certain rule of relative placement between the main pillar hole and other small pillar holes.
