Ecological Land Use and Urban High Rise City

Yokohama Bay Bridge being a part of the link around Tokyo Bay is the gateway to Yokohama Harbour. It directly connects circularly 3 cities Kawasaki, Yokohama, Tokyo as well as with Chiba prefecture. Daikoku Pier, a junction adjacent to Haneda Airport rises 50 metres high above ground with a span of 100 metres, with its looped ramp soaring through the air. This three-dimensional road, with its colossal curves, will change the city in the future.

Up until now all of the city planning has set out from a horizontal grid on ground, dividing and connecting based on horizontal roads. Our proposal is a vertical urban space formed by three-dimensional movement that will provide a circulatory system, a nervous system to breathe life into a city in the air, liberated from horizontal divisions on ground.

The lower parts of our super-high-rise buildings, reaching over 300 metres into the air are open for pedestrians and for recreational activities. To restore and conserve the natural environment, roads have been removed from ground level and taken up into the air; direct access to higher levels above 100 metres frees the city of grids and traffic intersecting at ground level. This aerial city has continuous door-to-door access to one's destination along the aerial roads. The approach level to the free-access high-rise buildings is the entrance hall or lobby, a node just like the concourse of a railway station. From here people can come and go freely to the upper and lower floors. Having parking near at hand means that our perpendicular city can have perpendicular open spaces. Private residences and hotels are linked directly from door to door by double-spiral, similar to our double-spiral Pyramid of the Sea (1991).

Double-spiral roads and parking areas which allow movement from one private space to another private space, with no need to pass through any public spaces. This was nothing but a dream in the 20th century. When the city takes on a three-dimensional structure in the form of new super-high-rise buildings with continuous and direct aerial access, all the roads, streets and traffic lights will disappear, and natural environment will once more make an appearance on the ground. We will enjoy jogging along wooded lanes where flowers bloom in profusion, horseback riding, and rowing down canals to Yokohama Harbour where yachts and boats sail on the water.

Cities linked by light ribbon-like skyways. Daikoku Pier City is just 10 minutes from Haneda airport. The super-high-densed and diverse living space is a highly-convenient, highly-efficient, 24-hour-a-day city; yet if you go down to ground level and you will find yourself in a green, shady woods. It becomes possible to live in a paradise on the ground level and the city in the air, which makes the traditional choice of either city or country, an alternative of the past; and at the same time makes commuting both pleasantness and convenience. In the near future, there will be no more asphalt jungle. This is how to realize a sophisticated smart city without any compromise such as inconvenience, danger of traffic, artificial nature.

We presumably enjoy the aerial city life as a community as well as a country club without going out of the city.

This is our proposal for Land use and Urban ecology without a contradiction.

LE GRAND CUBE

Office building to be directly accessible from aerial parking lot through elevated high way. In the core of120x120x120 M3 cubic frame of universal grid 72x72x72 M3 cubic parking and mechanical box is inserted. The core at the center is usually abandoned due to its poor environmental conditions for living or working. High rise and high densed building with a full of supporting facilities are provided. The cube, as big as Le Grand Arche, is on the same axis as Champs Elysees in Paris.

TRIDENT CROSS

Three leaning high rise buildings connected in the air both structurally and beneficially for communicating people of 3 buildings.

If one of three is a hotel, 2 other buildings would enjoy hotel services meeting dining, and convention.

HOTEL DIMARYP

All the access is provided at the top of the building toward down wards. More public space on higher level, more private space on lower level.

The closer the floor of guest rooms, locate to the earth ground full of trees and flowers the more intimate natural environment is obtained. Hotel Dimaryp is just upside-down of the pyramid of king Cheops in Gizeh, Egypt.

UNITE D'HABITATION, YOKOHAMA

An ultimate convenience of door to door is achieved in habitation. Liberated ground with full of nature, pilotis and roof gardens are also attractive for urban citizens as Le Corbusier suggested.

High rise and densed housing unit to be approached directly by car to each door. In order to make the spiral approach as short as possible, less than 2.5km, the section of Unite Dhabitation of Le Corbusier is stuck up and rolled in a circle. Every 4 floors, the car parking and slope is provided for both upper apartment and lower apartment unit. (1.2 vehicles per apartment) Every 4 floors, a corridor for pedestrian is provided.

Approximately 4 building of Unite D'habitation Marseille are compactly built which is 700m long in line, if it is spread in straight in one line.

YACHT CLUB TOWER

Kepler's Octagon Star-like silhouette.

Yacht club tower directly approached by cars.

BIRDS SANCTUARY

Gigantic high rise, high densed building as infra-structure make it possible that whole ground of the site is liberated by raising all the road in the air at the same time.

Obtaining the floor space of 417.8% the coverage is only 18.3% 81.7% of the site is left green in natural.

Canal crossing in the woods, sporting facilities all over, restaurant and market place here and there like pavilions for the urban citizens to enjoy life.

Birds sanctuary in a city.

SKY WAY

Highway, jumping from one building to another building in the air like a ribbon. No more asphalt jungle!

Pedestrians are not afraid of traffic signal and enjoy walking a lane among woods, cycling, horse back riding and yachting.
