Note Nakai  cited  this  as  the  type  specimen  in  J.  Jap.  Bot.  10:  554  (1934),  but  he  already  wrote  the  name  "Sasa  brachyphylla  Nakai"  on  the  label  in  1929.  Therefore,  we  judged  this  specimen  as  the  holotype.  This  specimen  is  also  one  of  the  syntypes  of  Arundinaria  paniculata  (F.  Schmidt)  Makino  var.  nana  Makino  (in  Bot.  Mag.  Tokyo  14:  53.  1900).
