Iwadeyama Town Consolidated Junior High School

ATSUSHI KITAGAWARA ARCHITECTS, Inc.

This Junior High School project requires a critical role of learning facilities in "the Academic Town." In addition to the recent excess in the architectural software, we acknowledge that the contemporary architecture has now captured an advanced as sophisticated media.

The site is located on the Kunimi mountain range surrounded by the continuing mountains and plains, which looks over the landscape of running river of enrichment on the foothill. The common metaphor of such landscape is the wave: its undulation represents the energy of moving wombs, the conveyance of information, and the dynamism of history and culture. Here, we propose a permeating architecture with which the landscape and the role of facilities give birth to an undulating mount. This undulating mount organically synthesizes each existing inner function, and a vegetated space garden is substantiated as the permeating architecture gradually conforms into the natural environment of surrounding mountains. Following the functional needs, comprehensive uses of space are symbolized clearly into the intuitive form. Establishing the concurrent consistence of the fusion and the independence, the permeating architecture is finally aimed to be a sophisticated media to produce comprehensive activities that happen around/within the facilities.
