LOCATION :  South Iraq, Basra
CHRONOLOGY :  ?
PERIOD CODE :
DESCRIPTION :  The Euphrates and Tigris join each other at Qurnah, where some Arab legends locate the biblical Garden of Eden. The Sumerians called the fabulous garden of Dilmun, Guggirinna (Qurnah?). On the basis of this it has recently been suggested that Qurnah is Dilmun (or Telmun). Dilmun is traditionally associated with ancient sites on the islands of Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. Because of its location along the sea trade routes, linking Mesopotamia with the Indus Valley Civilization, Dilmun developed in the Bronze Age, from ca. 3000 BC, into one of the greatest trade centres of the ancient world.
