The Gigantic

Gigantic things are curious in and of themselves, and therefore must be a structural element of any "cabinet of curiosities." The fact that we now are so fascinated by the age of the dinosaurs, even though we have got used to seeing them, suggests the idea of the "gigantic" has a significance beyond any simple increase in scale. As is sugested by the idea of a world inside a walnut (there is a Japanese fable about such a "walnut world"), we would not even notice were all things to expand and contract equally. Size is only a relative concept.
