Morphological Diversity and Variation

In the section Macrolespedeza, approximately 60 taxa have been described as species, a large number of which still remain uncertain or confusing. The minor morphological differences that are found in only one or a few specimens have been exhaustively used for delimitation of species. The uncertainty or confusion in specific delimitation is mainly due to poor understanding of such differences and the absence of infallible distinguishing characters. For the purpose of the species delimitation in sect. Mac-rolespedeza it is necessary to determine characteristics with constant appearances and narrow ranges of variation in each species.
