Remarks. —Cypridina (Pyrocypris) japonica G. W. Müller, 1890 is a primary homonym for Cypridina japonica Brady, 1866. The species, therefore, needs a new name. Later, Kajiyama (1912) described a new species Cypridina (Pyrocypris) noctiluca Kajiyama from the same general area, which is very similar in its morphology to this species. There fore, before replacing the rejected homonym by a new name, the relationships between the specimens described by both G. W. Müller (1890) and Kajiyama (1912) require further study.

Remarks. —The genus is closely allied to Entomoconchus M'Coy (Brady, 1866, p. 387, 388; Brady and Norman, 1896, p. 628); referrable to Codonocera Brady (Brady, 1902, p. 188); closely related to Siphonostra Skogsberg (Skogsberg, 1920, p. 299, 300); synony-mized Siphonostra with Heterodesmus (Sylvester-Bradley, 1961, p. Q398); closely related to and perhaps congeneric with Amphisiphonostra Poulsen (Poulsen 1962, p. 249, 254).

Remarks. —The specimen described by Kajiyama (1912) as Cypridina punctata Dana is close to this species. Both Kajiyama's and Poulsen's specimens are collected at Misaki. For identification, however, further study is required.

Remarks. —Generic identification needs further study. In Kajiyama's original description of this species, the specific name appeared in two passages. In the heading of the description of the new species, the name appeared as Cylindroleberis obalis n. sp., whereas, in the explanations of figures, it appeared correctly as C. ovalis n. sp. The name C. ovalis is, however, preoccupied by C. ovalis G. W. Müller, 1908. Therefore, in applying article 32 (b) of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, C. obalis is here adopted as the name of this species.

Therefore, these two species are listed in this paper, pending reexaminaion of the Challenger specimens from St. 231.

Known occurrence. —Living at Challenger St. 231 (Lat, 31°8'N, Long, 137°8'E), Shikoku ocean basin, collected in April 9, 1875; St. 232 (Lat. 35°11'N, Long. 139°38'E), Sagami Bay, off Kanagawa Pref., collected in May 12, 1875 (Brady, 1880).
Remarks. —G. W. Müller (1906, p. 98) pointed out that the specimens described by Brady, 1880 were not Halocypris atlantica Lubbock, 1856 but Conchoecia serrulata Claus, 1874.
